PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a karaoke system capable of preventing robbery and suppressing theft action even when a karaoke playing apparatus is in a stand-alone specification, for instance the apparatus is installed in a region where a communication network is not still fully equipped. SOLUTION: The karaoke system is provided with the karaoke playing apparatus for playing a music piece and displaying lyric images corresponding to the playing music piece on a display device. An identification code is imparted to the display device, the identification code of the prescribed display device is previously registered in the karaoke playing apparatus and the display device has a function for collating and authenticating coincidence/non-coincidence between the imparted identification code and the registered identification code to control whether the lyric image data of the playing music piece are to be displayed or not in accordance with the authenticated result.
