PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical member capable of increasing the area rate of a reflection means for reflecting returning light, obtaining a sufficient light integrating effect even when it is not made long in entire length, and making the dispersion angle of emitted light small, and to provide a lighting system and a projection type video display device. SOLUTION: The optical member 12A is equipped with: a rod integrator 15; a reflection type polarizing plate 16 provided on the side of the light emitting surface of the rod integrator 15; a reflection member 13 provided on the light incident side surface of the rod integrator 15; and a 1/4λplate 14 provided between the reflection member 13 and the light incident surface. A light introducing aperture 13a is formed on the reflection member 13, and the LED chip of an LED 11 is positioned at the light introducing aperture 13a.
