The method involves receiving the out-of-phase number of the rotation signals (S1-S4) from rotation sensors (1) arranged in different wheels (2) of a motor vehicle, and then assigning phase shift to the rotation signals in the first roll direction (R). A change in the phase shift of the rotation signals is performed in the roll direction opposite the first roll direction. The phase shift in the rotation signals is compensated based on steering angle or wheel slippage. The phase shift is assigned to the rotation numbers in the first roll direction if vehicle is driven in straight direction. An independent claim is included for the roll direction determining device.
