A VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) gateway using a mobile IP address and a controlling method thereof are provided to transmit a message only when an event occurs, instead of the message being periodically transmitted, thereby reducing unnecessary traffic. If a self IP is changed from a DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server, a VoIP gateway changes an IP of a node indicative of the VoIP gateway on a node information table, and increases an update count(S11). The VoIP gateway transmits a self node information table message to VoIP gateways of all nodes registered on the node information table, so as to update node information tables stored in the other VoIP gateways(S12).
