A picture projection system comprises a curved screen having a minimum " relative depth" (f/c in Fig. 1) of 1/10 and projection apparatus comprising optical means for forming a sharp curved image coinciding substantially with the surface of the screen. The image curvature may be produced by introducing suitable aberrations into the projection lens or lenses, or by using a supplementary " bent " lens. The screen is formed of an array of juxtaposed quadrant-section rods parallel with the axis of curvature of the screen with the arcuate surface facing towards the meridian plane of a convex screen (Fig. 4) and away from the meridian plane of a concave screen (Fig. 3).
