PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for tracking correlation which enables conducting various determinations regarding tailing with high precision, in a relative tailing device in which a correlation tracking system is adopted. SOLUTION: The method computes image information over a reference image held in the memory of the computer of a main image extracted from a captured image as a image state index, computes one by one the correlation factor value of the object and the reference image which are acquired by scanning a specified processing region, computes as two or more tracking state indexes, a displacement from a peak profile when capturing clearly a tracking object of a peak profile acquired, by mapping the computed correlation factor value, decides whether the each computed index is certain within a limit of a proper value, and determines various information regarding tracking, by using the decision results of at least two indexes from among the each of the indices, in the relative tailing method where a computer tails a reference image based on functionality.
