PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a screen structure to be flexibly switched from one to the other without requiring two or more screen cells and their switching function. SOLUTION: In a halftone processing unit 12, a lookup table 123 contains the addresses of a data region where an output pixel value corresponding to an input pixel value is stored so as to increase or decrease the corresponding output pixel value in accordance with an increase in the input pixel value, an address generating unit 122 converts the input pixel values of the input multi-valued image data into addresses which indicate the position of pixels on the screen cells set on a setting unit 121, and an output processing unit 124 reads out an output pixel value corresponding to the input pixel value from the lookup table 123 resting on the converted addresses to output.
