摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of accurately reading an image and highly accurately evaluating the image. SOLUTION: A range finding section 3 in the image reading apparatus 100 measures a distance between a surface of an evaluation object and an imaging section 1 in a main scanning direction. A position calculation section 4 calculates a position of the imaging section 1 at which the evaluation object can be imaged at a desired MTF on the basis of the measured distance. A position adjustment section 5 moves the imaging section 1 to the calculated position, the imaging section 1 images the evaluation object at this position to generate image data. When the imaging section 1 cannot image the whole evaluation object at the desired MTF by one imaging, the position calculation section 4 calculates a plurality of positions of the imaging section 1, after the imaging section 1 carries out imaging at a plurality of the positions, the imaging section 1 extracts a region at which desired image forming performance is obtained from a plurality of image signals, and generates image data resulting from composing the region to obtain image data with desired quality.
