PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connection retaining device which can prevent transmission of vibrations of longitudinal waves and transverse waves transmitted from a vibration source such as a motor to a carriage via a belt. SOLUTION: The connection retaining device 300 retains connection between the carriage conveying belt 152 of an endless belt type wrapped around a driving pulley 150 and a driven pulley 151, and the carriage 107 having a recording head 106 mounted thereon, for carrying out reciprocative movement in a main scanning direction. The connection retaining device 300 has a holder 302 which is formed on one side of the device, close to the carriage and retains a connection portion 301 being as an elastic body. The holder 302 holds therein a first absorbing portion 303 as the connection portion 301 and a second absorbing portion 304 for pinching the carriage conveying belt 152 in cooperation with the first absorbing portion 303.
