<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine edge candidates close to actual parts, as much as possible, even when the edge candidates not having a difference in contrast appears, which relate to a recognition processor for electronic part mounting device and its recognition processing method which irradiate electronic parts sucked and held by an sucktion nozzle with an lighting device, and recognize and process the reflected images, before the electronic parts on a printed circuit board are mounted. <P>SOLUTION: If a CPU determines the existence of two edge candidates, which are further the edge candidates with little degree in contrast change between them, the difference between a length in the direction of a long edge calculated using the edge candidates, and a length of an edge candidate with a calculated length secondly close to a part dimension (size) is decided about whether it is, for example, less than ten percent of the part size.
