<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device whose life can easily be predicted, and a method for predicting the life of the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A PWM value increases with a back light illumination time from a point E to a point A according to a linear function. Namely, the PWM value and back light illumination time are in nearly linear relation. In the section (hereinafter a linear section) from the point E to the point A, the nearly linear relation between the PWM value and the time for back light illumination is utilized to predict the life of the back light based upon the PWM value. A reference PWM value P<SB>1</SB>is acquired at time T<SB>1</SB>in the linear section and then a PWM value (object PWM value) P<SB>2</SB>acquired at time T<SB>2</SB>which is 100 hours later is acquired. The period (life time) T<SB>X</SB>before a maximum luminance PWM value P<SB>m</SB>is reached is found from T<SB>X</SB>=(T<SB>2</SB>-T<SB>1</SB>)(P<SB>m</SB>-P<SB>1</SB>)/(P<SB>2</SB>-P<SB>1</SB>)-(T<SB>2</SB>-T<SB>1</SB>). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
