PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a driver to smoothly drive a vehicle by allowing the driver to judge on which lane he should drive the vehicle. SOLUTION: This information providing system has a present location detecting part, a basic information acquisition processing means for acquiring map data, a front monitoring device 48 for detecting preceding vehicles in each lane and detecting a relative speed between each preceding vehicle and a self-vehicle, and a lane selection processing means for selecting a recommended lane on the basis of feature of a road ahead of the self-vehicle, acquired on the basis of the map data and the relative speed.
