PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an machine testing for impact compression constituted in such a manner that a jig such as a press plate or the like or a load cell and a test target are hardly overloaded and are protected from damage. SOLUTION: The press plate 23 on a fixed side is attached to a base 11 through an overload preventing mechanism (an air cylinder 41, an air tank 44, a pressure adjusting valve 43 and the like), which is displaced by the action of preset force to absorb an impact. By this constitution, even if the piston rod 21 of a hydraulic cylinder 21 is not suddenly stopped when the hydraulic cylinder 21 is driven at a high speed to apply impact compression load to the test specimen W, the load which exceeds set load is absorbed by the displacement of the press plate 23 on the fixed side to prevent overload from acting on the load cell 31 or the jig such as press plates 22 and 23 or the like to damage these members.
