PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with high operationality and a simple structure, capable of improving size detection accuracy of irregular type sheets and accurately selecting appropriate sheets. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is provided with a regular size value storing means storing size values of regular type sheets beforehand; a displacement amount detecting means detecting displacement amount from a regular position of sheet end faces of regular type sheets to be loaded on a paper feeding part to an end face position of sheets loaded on the paper feeding part; and a calculating means calculating the size values of the sheets loaded on the paper feeding part based on the displacement amount and the size values of the regular type sheets. In particular, the displacement amount from the regular position of the sheet end faces of the regular type sheets loaded on the paper feeding part to the end face position of the sheets loaded on the paper feeding part is amplified, and on the basis of the amplified displacement amount, appropriate sheet size values are calculated.
