PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic coating method of a car body, by which a metallic coating film excellent in color consistency with a multi-ply metallic coating film to be formed on an outside plate part of the car body can be formed on an inside plate part of the car body with good workability when the multi-ply metallic coating film is formed on the outside plate part of the car body by a 4-coat-3-bake method. SOLUTION: The outside plate part of the car body is coated with a metallic base coating material, which contains a luster pigment having L<SB>1</SB>μm average particle size and is used for forming a luster color coating film having≤15μm base concealing thickness, and a clear coating material by a 2-coat-1-bake method. The outside plate part thus coated is furthermore coated with a metallic base coating material, which contains a luster pigment having L<SB>2</SB>μm average particle size and is used for forming a luster color coating film having 20-45μm base concealing thickness, and the clear coating material by the 2-coat-1-bake method. The inside plate part of the car body is coated with a metallic base coating material, which contains a luster pigment having the average particle size (L<SB>3</SB>) smaller than [(L<SB>1</SB>+L<SB>2</SB>)/2]μm by 0.2-4.0μm and is used for forming a luster color coating film having≤12μm base concealing thickness, by an 1-coat-1-bake method or with the metallic coating material and the clear coating material by the 2-coat-1-bake method.
