PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless meter reading system capable of collecting a lot of measurement values obtained by a meter in a short time. SOLUTION: In this wireless meter reading system, information terminals 18, 19 collect the measurement value from the meter 17 to read the meter by performing wireless communication between a master unit 1 connected to the information terminals 18, 19 and a slave unit 2 connected to the meter 17. The slave unit 2 has: a measurement value storage means 12 periodically acquiring the measurement value from the meter 17 and sequentially storing it; a transmission data compression means 5 compressing the measurement value stored in the measurement value storage means 12; a data compression notification means 6 generating first communication mode information for notifying the effect that compressed data are transmitted; and a wireless transmission means 3 adding the communication mode information generated by the data compression notification means 6 to the data generated by compression by the transmission data compression means 5 in response to meter reading request from the master unit 1 and transmitting them to the master unit.
