PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal coated optical fiber having metal coating excellent in both tightness of a core line of the optical fiber and solder bondability and a method capable of manufacturing the same simply. SOLUTION: At least one part of a core line surface of the optical fiber has a first electroless Ni plating layer formed in contact with the core line surface and a second electroless Ni plating layer formed on the first electroless Ni plating layer. P density of the first electroless Ni plating layer is equal to 6.5 mass% or more, whereas that of the second electroless Ni plating layer is less than 6.5 mass%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
