SPINEL SINTERED COMPACT, LIGHT TRANSMISSION WINDOW, AND LIGHT TRANSMISSION LENS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive spinel sintered compact which is small in polarizability and high in thermal conductivity, and to provide a light transmission window and light transmission lens for a useful light emitting device.

SOLUTION: The spinel sintered compact has ≥300 contrast value by white light when the quotient obtained by dividing the amount of the light transmission in the arrangement where the compact is held by two polarizing plates whose polarization directions are parallel by the amount of the light transmission in the arrangement where the compact is held by two polarizing plates whose polarization directions are orthogonal is defined as a contrast value. The spinel sintered compact having the contrast value of ≥1,000 is preferable. The composition of the spinel sintered compact is preferably MgO-nAl2O3, where n is preferably 1.05 to 1.30 and more preferably n is 1.07 to 1.25.
