PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of achieving miniaturization. SOLUTION: The image display device includes a plurality of projection units having a light source device which emits a light beam of basic color; a spatial optical modulation device which optically modulates the light beam of basic color emitted from the light source device in accordance with an image signal; and a projection system which projects the image based on the light beam of basic color modulated by the spatial optical modulation device to a screen 10. The projection unit includes the projection units for respectively projecting the picture composed of the light beam of S polarized light, whose basic color is different from each other, to the screen 10, and the projection units for respectively projecting the image composed of the light beam of P polarized light, whose basic color is different from each other, to the screen 10. It forms a composite image on the screen 10 by composing the images projected from the respective projection units arranged in matrix shape on the screen 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
