PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a takeup device equipped with a braking mechanism to apply a braking force to a takeup reel in rotation, capable of adjusting the braking force and enhancing the convenience in handling. SOLUTION: The cable takeup device 1 has the braking mechanism 6 to apply the braking force to the takeup reel 4 in rotation. The braking mechanism 6 is equipped with two sets of swinging members 35 installed inside a brake wall 31 and brake shoes 37 installed at one end of the swinging member, where a tensile coil spring 41 as energizing member and a stud bolt 42 as adjusting means are installed between the other ends of the two swinging members 35. According to this constitution, the braking force to the rotation of the takeup reel 4 can be adjusted by adjusting the energizing force of the tensile coil spring 41 which energizes the brake shoes 37 in the direction of abutting to the braking wall 31, which enables enhancing the convenience in handling the cable takeup device 1.
