APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COAGULATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a stable and efficient coagulation treatment with a reduced amount of the coagulant used while coagulation inhibition by coagulation-inhibiting substances in raw water and excess and deficiency of the coagulant are prevented by controlling appropriately the amount of the coagulant added in a coagulation treatment. SOLUTION: An coagulation method comprises introducing raw water into a coagulation agitation vessel 2 and adding a coagulant to coagulate. An apparatus for the method is also provided. The apparatus has an absorbance measuring instrument 11 detecting coagulation-inhibiting substances in raw water and a controlling means 5 for controlling the amount of the coagulant added on the basis of the detected values from the instrument 11. The amount of the coagulant added is controlled according to the difference between the absorbance in the UV region and that in the visible region, measured with a sensor 11. The pH of the inside of the coagulation vessel 2 is controlled to 5.0-7.0 on the basis of the detected values from a pH sensor 13. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
