PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sand filter capable of certainly solving clogging of a water collecting material over the whole length. SOLUTION: The sand filter 1 is provided with a container 2 charged with waste water from the upper part, the water collecting material 3 formed of cylindrical woven fabric having a self-keeping property by using thread having bending resilience in a part of the weft and housed in the container 2, a sand layer 4 filling the upper side of the water collecting material 3 in the container 2 and an air tube 16 inserted in the water collecting material 3 over the whole length. Thereby, high-pressure air can be supplied even into the inner part of the water collecting material 3 through the air tube 16 and clogging is certainly solved even in the case of generating clogging in the water collecting material 3.
