In a simple-matrix display apparatus in which wirings from a single-chip driver to common electrodes are distributed and connected to two sides of a display element, the brightness inclination caused by differences in length of the wirings to the common electrodes are compensated for, thereby achieving a display exhibiting a uniform brightness. A simple-matrix display apparatus comprises a display element (10) having common electrodes (y) and segment electrodes (x); and a driver IC (20) including a segment driving circuit and a common driving circuit. Wirings from the driver IC (20) are distributed and connected to two sides of the display element (10). The driver IC (20) comprises common output terminals (COM1A to COM120A) connected to respective ends of the common electrodes (y); common monitor terminals (COM1B,COM60B,COM61B,COM120B) connected to the other respective ends of a part of the common electrodes (y); and a voltage regulating circuit that regulates, based on monitor voltages at the common monitor terminals, the common drive voltages.
