<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage a license and collect a license fee for a communication software module running on an external hardware device communicating with an image processing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An external controller device 103 comprises an operation decision means for deciding its own operation according to setting information in the connected image processing apparatus 104. The image processing apparatus 104 is temporarily connected with an external apparatus 108 capable of reading the setting information and unique information in the image processing apparatus 104, and the external apparatus 108 is connected with a dongle device 109. The external apparatus 109 checks whether any unique information is written in a dongle memory, and if it is not written, writes the former unique information, or if it is written, compares it with the former unique information and, only if they match, rewrites the setting information for the external controller device 103. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
