PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the inclination of an image, while preventing the image angle of the image assumed by the user from becoming narrow. SOLUTION: An image generating apparatus is provided with a display section for displaying an object for the display of a composition of an image to a user; an imaging section for using an imaging element to generate an image; an inclination quantity detecting section for detecting the inclination quantity in imaging that indicates the inclination quantity along a vertical surface of the image generating apparatus at imaging by the imaging section; and a correction processing section for correcting the inclination of the image. The imaging section generates an image, corresponding to an image-generating region, a region on an imaging element, consisting of a display corresponding region corresponding to the range of an object displayed on the display section and an additional region added to the external periphery of the display-corresponding region, as an original image. The correction processing section generates a correction image that is an image corrected so as to eliminate the influence of the inclination of the image-generating apparatus, by utilizing both the image that corresponds to the display corresponding region of the original image and the image that corresponds to the additional image, on the basis of the inclination quantity in imaging.
