PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a driver to feel a smooth traveling feeling, by taking into consideration shift indication performed by an intention of the driver, when performing a shift-up prohibiting means. SOLUTION: For this purpose, this shift control device of an automatic transmission has an accelerator opening detecting means, an accelerator opening change rate calculating means, a shift control means for shifting a speed on thee basis of a shift map, and the shift-up prohibiting means for prohibiting shift-up for a predetermined time when an accelerator opening change rate is lower than a preset value; and has a shift position selecting device capable of indicating switching to a high speed side-low speed side shift stage from a present shift stage by operation of the driver; and stops the performance of the shift-up prohibiting means when the driver operates the shift position selecting device in a state of satisfying a performance condition of the shift-up prohibiting means. The shift control device has the shift position selecting device, and prohibits the performance of the shift-up prohibiting means until a specific time passes when the driver operates the shift position selecting device.
