PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evade an error in determining the number of connected apparatuses by detecting a connection failure if occurs between the apparatuses, outputting it, and correctly specifying the apparatus positioned at the terminal end of the connection. SOLUTION: Light curtains 30 including light projecting/receiving apparatuses 40, 60, which are opposing and vertically arranged, are disposed over the three surfaces of a press machine in the perspective view of a safety sensor system. The respective light projecting apparatuses 40A-40C and the respective light receiving apparatuses 60A-60C of the three light curtains 30A-30C are electrically and serially connected with a connection cable 93. A terminal cap 95 is mounted on the light projecting apparatus 40C and the light receiving apparatus 60C positioned at the terminal end of the connection, to specify an end slave, based on the mounting of the terminal end cap 95. Consequently, when the connection failure exists between the light projecting apparatuses 40 or between the light receiving apparatuses 60, the apparatus with the connection failure is not erroneously determined to be the end.
