PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general-purpose breaker of a throw-away chip capable of coping with a wide range of cutting and feeding. SOLUTION: A breaker groove 7 along a cutting blade 6 is on a top face 2 of a chip 1, and the breaker groove 7 is formed of a protrusion 8 extending from the center at a corner 3a. The tip of the protrusion 8 shows an indented shape surrounding the corner seen from a plane, and has a standing face projecting to be longest near the cutting blade from two peaks of the protrusion showing the indented shape. The standing angle of the corner is 10-30 degrees. The standing face which is the bottom of the protrusion is formed farther than the cutting blade as it is separated from the corner.
