<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which residual toner or a discharge product on an image carrier can be easily removed, wear and abrasion in the image carrier and a cleaning member can be effectively prevented, and a print of high picture quality can be obtained for a long time. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with at least an image carrier 11, a charging means 12 to charge the surface of the image carrier, an exposing means 13 to expose the image carrier 11 to form a latent image according to input image signals, a developing means 14 to develop the latent image with toner to form a visible image, a transfer means to transfer the visible image onto a transfer medium, and a cleaning means 15 to remove a toner remaining on the image carrier, wherein operation of the above cleaning means 15 is controlled according to an average image density detected from the input image signals. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
