<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of facilitating focusing of a lens and change of magnification. <P>SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a housing 1, a projection lens 4, a relay lens 3 and an illumination optical system 2. The illumination optical system 2 is constituted to transfer an optical image to be projected to the entrance pupil of the relay lens 3. The relay lens 3 is arranged, at a position where the optical image transferred from the illumination optical system 2 can be transferred to the entrance pupil of the projection lens 4.
