PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image sensor of which a read frequency is high. SOLUTION: The image sensor comprises: a first group of photoelectric conversion elements which are arrayed linearly; a first transfer section for serially transfer electric charges generated in the photoelectric conversion elements in the first group of photoelectric conversion elements; a first detecting section for sequentially detecting the electric charges transferred by the first transfer section for each of the photoelectric conversion elements; a second group of photoelectric conversion elements which are arrayed in parallel with an array direction of the first group of photoelectric conversion elements, from one end of the first group of photoelectric conversion elements to the other end, continuously to the photoelectric conversion element in the other end of the first group of photoelectric conversion elements; a second transfer section for serially transfer electric charges generated in the photoelectric conversion elements in the second group of photoelectric conversion elements; and a second detecting section for sequentially detecting the electric charges transferred by the second transfer section.
