PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image storage device and an image storage method which can back up image data without affecting normal storing operation when image data stored in a storage means where fault occurrence is predicted are backed up to another sound storage means. SOLUTION: A fault predicting means 20 predicts when a fault occurs to each of storage means (HDDs 15a to 15d). A storage control means 21 compresses image data in a storage means whose fault occurrence is predicted by a compressing/expanding part 13 with higher compressibility to reduce the amount of the data, which are backed up in another sound storage means. Especially, when the backup operation and storing operation for new input image data are carried out simultaneously, the inputted image data are also stored with higher compressibility.
