The device for the propulsion of an aircraft with two contra-rotating, coaxial propellers has the second propeller (8) driven by an internally geared wheel (4) which revolves freely. The internally geared wheel is supported on the gearcase (6) by a thin ring bearing (5). The front propeller and the rear propeller may be driven by the internally geared wheel. The propeller (7) which is driven by the planet carrier (3) of the planetary transmission is designed so that it absorbs less power than that driven by the internally geared wheel. The drive is an electric motor.
