To measure the concentration or change in the concentration of a redox active substance, as a mediator in a molecular biological detection system, a pulsed potential is applied at a working electrode forming measurement and relaxation phases. The measurement pulse lengths are selected so that, towards the end of the pulse, the capacitative current is small against the Faraday's current and the measured current at the end of the measurement phase forms the measurement signal. The relaxation phase pulse lengths are set so that, towards their end, the concentration gradient is relaxed. The transducer array (100) can be a biochemical sensor for DNA analysis. A reference electrode (RE) has a silver/silver chloride layer, working with a counter electrode (CE) and two further measurement electrodes (WE). A potentiostat (5) works in combination with a pulse generator (6) and two operation amplifiers (7,7'). |
