This invention concerns the use of an amine oxidase enzyme inhibitor for the manufacture of a pharmaceutical preparation useful in the treatment or prevention of metabolic syndrome and diseases or conditions resulting therefrom. The invention concerns also the use of vitamin B1 or a metabolite thereof for the manufacture of a pharmaceutical preparation useful as an amine oxidase enzyme inhibitor. Furthermore, the invention concerns a food product comprising an amine oxidase enzyme inhibitor in combination with a foodstuff, a food additive comprising an amine oxidase enzyme inhibitor in combination with a liquid, solid or semisolid carrier.
