A method for melt spinning and cooling a plurality of filaments by extruding the filaments as a curtain and passing the curtain through a cooling zone with a cross-current (B1) of cooling air, in which an additional current of air (B2) is blown over the filaments at the edges of the curtain in the cooling zone. An independent claim is included for a device for use in this method, comprising a long spinneret system (1) for extruding many filaments (6), and a cooling system (3) under the spinneret with a blowing wall (4.1) parallel to the long edge of (1) and connected to a blowing chamber (5.1) so as to produce an air flow (B1) across the filaments (6), in which there is also a blowing mechanism (8.1) at at least one end-face of the spinneret system (1) for blowing air (B2) over the filaments at the edge(s) of the curtain. |
