868,411. Laminates ; coated aluminium foil. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. May 24, 1957 [May 25, 1956], No. 16616/57. Class 140. [Also in Group XXII] Aluminium or other metal foil is coated on one side only with a fusible coating composition, e.g. polyfluorethylene, by applying a first sheet of the foil to a second sheet of similar width, as in the Figure, sealing the edges, e.g. by crimping, immersing the composite metal sheet in a liquid dispersion of the fusible dielectric material, passing the coated sheet through a heating- stage to fuse the coating material, and separating the two sheets, e.g. by cutting off the crimped edges. The aluminium foil must be free of oil or grease before treatment. The dispersion is preferably of polytetrafluorethylene or polytrifluormonochloroethylene in an aqueous medium using a wetting-agent, e.g. " Triton-X100 " (Registered Trade Mark), an alkyl aryl polyether. Organic media may also be used. The heating stage, which removes moisture and eliminates the wetting-agent, in addition to fusing the dielectric compound, is effected at about 327‹ C. for 4 minutes. The coated foil is used in making capacitors, or printed circuits, or thick coated foils can be applied as corrosion and adhesion resistant facings or laminates on chemical or bakery equipment. |
