The invention comprises dyes which, in their acid form, contain at least two groups selected from carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups and are of formula <FORM:0837953/IV(c)/1> where A is an aryl radicle free from amino and alkyl groups, B is a 1,4-naphthylene residue, X is Cl or Br and Q is a substituent bound to the triazine nucleus through a nitrogen atom and is free of groups making the dye capable of coupling with a diazo component. Indicated for A are benzene, naphthalene, stilbene and benzthiazole residues which may be substituted with halogen, acylamino, nitro, alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy and sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups. Q may be an amino or a mono- or disubstituted amino group. The dyes may be made by reacting a 2,4-dihalogeno-6-amino-s-triazine with a compound of formula A-N= N-B-NH2. Reaction is preferably effected in an aqueous medium at a low temperature in the presence of an acid-binding agent at pH 6.5-8. They may also be made by reacting a cyanuric halide with an appropriate amino dyestuff and the product with ammonia or a primary or secondary amine. Examples of specified components corresponding to A are orthanilic acid, aniline-2,5-disulphonic acid, 5-chloro - 4 - methyl - 2 - sulphonic acid, 2 - naphthylamine - 3,6,8 - trisulphonic acid, 2 - (41 -aminophenyl) - 6 - methyl - benzthiazole monosulphonic acid and 4-amino-41-nitrostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid. Examples of specified naphthylene components are 1-naphthyl-amine-7-sulphonic acid, a -naphthylamine and 2-methoxy - 1 - naphthylamine - 6 - sulphonic acid. Examples of amines corresponding to Q are aniline, N-ethyl-aniline, ethylamine, p-aminoacetanilide, metanilic acid, 1-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid, 2-(41-aminophenyl)-6-methyl-benzthiazole and the p-toluene sulphonate of 1,8 - amino - naphthol - 3,6 - disulphonic acid. The dyes colour cellulosic textile materials by methods using acid-binding agents (see Specification 797,946). Yellow and orange shades are obtained. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing and printing processes. Specification 774,925 also is referred to. |
