A DISCRIMINATING APPARATUS FOR A KIND OF PAPER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet discrimination device for obtaining the reliable authenticity discrimination result of paper sheets such as banknote, securities and cash voucher.

SOLUTION: This paper sheet discrimination device is provided with an infrared LED 4 for irradiating banknote 10 with an infrared ray, a blue LED 5 for irradiating banknote 10 with a visible beam, a CCD sensor 6 for receiving an infrared ray transmitted through the banknote, and for receiving the visible beam reflected from the banknote and an arithmetic part 12 for discriminating the authenticity of the banknote according to the presence of the acquisition of the pattern of the watermark section of the banknote by the infrared ray and the design of a watermark section by the visible beam based on the infrared ray and the visible beam received by the CCD camera 6.
