923,521. Ammunition fuzes. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. June 9, 1960 [June 9, 1959], No. 20357/60. Class 9 (1). An electric fuze for a projectile in which a condenser 4 is charged electrostatically as in Specification 751,579, is provided with self-destruction means 7 which prevents charging of the condenser during transport and storage. The body 1 of the projectile is in electrical connection with the fuze body 2, the nose 3 of the fuze being insulated from the body 2. The condenser 4 is in series connection with the nose 3, a primer 5 and a percussion member 6, which during transport is in contact with the means 7. Means 7 is a spring which is also in contact with the nose 3 and so short-circuits the condenser 4. After the projectile is fired, due to the rotation thereof, the spring 7 is deflected and the condenser becomes charged. As the angular velocity decreases, the spring returns to the first position. The condenser then discharges through the primer 5 and ignites the latter. Movement of the spring may also be governed by the linear acceleration of the projectile. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 751,579. |
