977,652. Suspension bridges. BAUDINCHATEAUNEUF. April 10, 1961 [April 26, 1960], No. 12864/61. Heading E1G. A suspension bridge comprises a span curved in plan view supported by cables 11 and 12 extending between points of suspension 10, 17 and 14, 15 located inwardly of the curve of the girders 8 and 9 respectively which they support. Each cable is directly secured to its girder at its centre and by slings 16 elsewhere along its length. A tie beam 21 extending between the ends of the girder 9 is secured to the cable 12 by slings 22. Transverse and diagonal bracing elements 18 and 19 respectively connect the girders 8 and 9. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the slings 16 which lie in a vertical plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the girder 8 or 9 are replaced by slings lying in a plane inclined to that axis and the carrier cables 11 and 12 need not be secured to the centres of their respective girders. |
