FIELD: manufacture of powder wire used in process of out-of-furnace treatment of metal melts and also as welding wire. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of forming from continuously fed belt of U-shaped chute with vertical walls of different height at least in three horizontal-roll stands provided with driven lower rolls. Said three horizontal stands are mounted alternatively with non-driven vertical stands. Powdered charge is supplied from hopper into chute and it is compacted. Closed tubular blank with folded seam is formed at least in three horizontal stands with drives of both rolls and in seven non-driven vertical-roll stands. Then tubular blank is reduced at total decrease of its outer diameter by 4% in one horizontal stand with two driven rolls and in non-driven three-roll stand at simultaneously shaping three inner corrugations uniformly arranged along perimeter of blank. One corrugation is formed directly near folded seam. ^ EFFECT: increased density and uniformity of filling envelope with powdered charge, increased rigidity of metallic envelope. ^ 2 dwg
