BACCATIN DERIVATIVES AND A PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Disclosed are baccatin derivatives of the formulas (I) and (III) <IMG> (wherein R1 and R2 are an OH-protecting group, R3 is aryl or alkyl, R5 is H or alkyl, n is 1-5, Bz is benzoyl and Ac is acetyl) as well as processes for producing the baccatin derivatives by reacting a baccatin of the formula (II) <IMG> with a (.beta.-ketoester in the absence of a catalyst or in the presence of a tin compound or an amine base, preferably under reduced pressure. The baccatin derivatives are useful for producing anti-cancer toxoid compounds.
