An ice amount sensing apparatus is provided to adjust the turning angle of an ice sensing lever by turning the ice sensing lever with an amplifying gear and a lever gear, and to extend the ice sensing range by increasing the turning angle of the ice sensing lever. An ice amount sensing apparatus includes a cam(54) rotated by a motor, a turning lever(62) having a projection(60) installed and contacted to a surface of the cam and a toothed part(66) and turning around a lever shaft(64), an elastic member installed in the turning lever to contact the projection to the surface of the cam by applying elastic force, an amplifying gear(70) engaged with the toothed part of the turning lever and interlocked with the turning lever, a lever gear(80) engaged with the amplifying gear, and an ice sensing lever(90) connected to a turning shaft of the lever gear to detect the ice amount in turning the lever gear. The amplifying gear is formed by connecting two sectorial gear parts(72,74) having different diameters.
