Providing time compensation for a customer of rented and encrypted content for periods in which the customer cannot access the content as the decryption key is not available due to problems in delivering the key/problems at the server side. A content delivery apparatus (e.g. an online video rental server) which provides content to a user terminal upon request in encrypted form, wherein the content is stored in encrypted form at the user's terminal and when the user wishes to view the content inside his/her renting period (view period) a decryption key (view permission information) is provided to the user's terminal from the server to allow decryption and viewing at the user's terminal. Furthermore, it is monitored whether the server has failed at the server side and if the server is disabled/fails for a period of time and users/customers may have been disadvantaged due to not having been able to request and obtain decryption keys inside their rental period, then the server side automatically compensates these users with additional rental time (relief right) and notifies them of this. |
