A roof rack cross bar locking device for an automobile is provided to perform lock and unlock of the cross bar by operating any one of levers disposed at both ends of a roof rack device. A roof rack cross bar locking device for an automobile includes a plurality of fixing grooves(110), a lever(300), a lock(400), a cam(500), an operation rod(600), and a link rod(700). The fixing grooves are formed at an inner surface of a guide rail at predetermined intervals. The lever has a guide groove formed therein and is pivotally supported at an upper corner of a cross bar. The lock is resiliently supported by a resilient body. The cam is in contact with an inner end of the lock to push the lock to be inserted into the fixing groove. The operation rod is connected to the cam at its one end and inserted into the guide groove at the other end. The link rod connects upper ends of the operation rod.
