The steel for making swords from longitudinally and transversely rolled plate comprises iron alloyed with silicon, manganese, phosphorus, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, vanadium, copper and aluminum, and also containing sulfur and carbon, in variable percentages. An independent claim is given for a process for making the swords. The process involves cutting the swords to shape from the plate.
