Disclosed are compositions for the transdermal delivery of drugs, comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a drug that includes a parent drug and a prodrug, wherein (a) the parent drug is selected from ACE inhibitors, anabolic steroids, androgenic steroids, glucocorticoids, mineral corticoids, progestins, and estrogens, or (b) the parent drug is estradiol and the prodrug is an estradiol derivative. Also disclosed is a method of suppressing crystal formation of a steroid in a transdermal drug delivery system, comprising combining two or more corresponding derivatives of the steroid in a pressure-sensitive adhesive carrier composition.
