Disclosed is a cosmetic which contains a heterocyclic compound based on N6-substituted adenine of the general formula I wherein: R2 is H, OH, halogen, alkoxy, amino, hydrazo, mercapto, carboxyl, cyano, nitro, amido, sulfo, sulfamido, acylamino, acyloxy, alkylamino, dialkylamino, alkylmercapto, cycloalkyl and carbamoyl, R6 is R6'-X; R6' is substituted phenyl. Cosmetics of this formula are useful for inhibiting ageing and senescence of mammalian epidermal cells such as keratinocytes or fibroblasts.
