A surface anchor adapted to anchor a fastener component within a surface, the anchor including, at least two locking arms each with two substantially opposed ends, each arm being attached to each other solely by a hinge located at one of the ends, the hinge configured to allow movement of the locking arms between an adjacent configuration (hereinafter referred to as an 'insertion' configuration) and a splayed configuration (hereinafter referred to as a 'locking' configuration), the hinge element also defining a fastener aperture adapted to receive at least a portion of a fastener, whereby insertion of at least a portion of a fastener through the fastener aperture causes the locking arms to splay apart about the hinge towards the locking configuration.
